The 46 km Deer Farm Hill circuit was back in play in perfect conditions and a strong field of 32 riders fronted up at Woodstock for a club handicap.
The field included new members Alan Pye and Tim Phillips, and try rider Adam Laughlin, all of whom acquitted themselves admirably. Di Jane paid for last week's win with a ten minute penalty but picked up two willing workers in Ross Ogilvie and Evelyn Keetelaar and the trio set about holding the rest of the field at bay. A solid tail wind for the first half of the race meant that all the bunches fairly flew to the Maryborough Road with scratch, second and third all averaging in the 40 kms, but none of these bunches could nail the one in front. The exception to the rule was the 11s who collared the 16s on Maryborough Road. Meanwhile the limit trio continued to work hard and held a big lead coming in to the finish. Di Jane (30 min) prevailed for the second week in a row with Evelyn and Ross rounding out the podium. Alan Pye jumped away from the next bunch but paid the price of sitting up too soon, which allowed Andrew Berry (11 min) to steal fourth from Alan (11 min), followed by Neil Andrews (11 min), Gino Abbisogni (11 min), Tom de Vries (16 min), Pam Robertson (16 min) and Mick Lavery (11 min). The rest of the field all crossed the finishing line within a few seconds of each other a little while later. Brad Geyer (scr.) recorded possibly his maiden fastest time of 1 hr 05m 26 sec at 42.2 km/hr.
