A sunny but windy Grand Final Day saw 21 riders turn up at Woodstock for a 35 km handicap over the hotdog circuit.
It's a good course as you can see how you're tracking at both turnaround points, and the last 10 km are tough enough to break up the bunches. The three riders off nine minutes handled the conditions as good as anyone and went into the turnaround well clear of the chasers, by which time the three and six minute groups had come together with a thirty second lead over scratch. Scratch took advantage of the cross tailwind on the way back to run down the two groups in front with a couple of kilometers to go. The nines had picked up Ken Lacey from limit, and those four lined up for the sprint with a good gap. Ray Colwell (9 min) led his bunch out but saw Ken (17 min) lurking just behind and had to kick again to hold Ken out. Pam Robertson and Steve Auld capped off a great ride by the nine minute bunch to finish third and fourth. Gavin Hill (scratch) led the rest home a few seconds later to take fifth and fastest time ahead of Steve Baines (3 min), Brett Williams (scr.), Murray Rankin (scr.), Rob Gartside (scr.) and Greg Chapman (6 min).
