Cantina sponsored today's 35 km handicap at Woodstock with Peter Cavallaro taking his place in the field hoping to recoup some of his investment.
Peter and Martin Banfield were joined in the scratch bunch by Noel Hughes on the comeback trail and Murray Rankin in their chase of strong bunches at 2 1/2, 5, 8 and 16 minutes with limit on 20 minutes. The hot dog course gave everyone a good idea of how they were traveling at the first turnaround, and the 5s were looking strong, catching the 8s before Woodstock and the 16s not far after. Scratch had been reduced early on and couldn't make much impression on the bunches in front, whereas the 5s/8s with David Cripps, Terry Schintler, Greg Chapman and Rick Lovell driving the bunch were flying along and had the race sewn up well out from home. David Cripps (5 min) scored a well-deserved victory from Terry Schintler, (5 min), with Greg Chapman (8 min), Pam Robertson (8 min) and Ricky Lovell hanging on gamely not far behind. Gavin Hill led the pursuing 2 1/2 bunch home just behind Ricky and in front of John Weir (5 min), Ian Stringer (2 1/2 min) and Chris Draper (2 1/2 min). Peter Cavallaro took fastest time ahead of Marty Banfield.
