As always, a tough course brings out the best in tough riders.
Great conditions and a strong field gave everyone a fair crack and the top ten came from bunches all the way from scratch to limit. After the expected thinning of all groups over the Goose and then the Turdberg, the middle markers prevailed with Gino Abbisogni (13 min) just prevailing over Peter Ladd (13 min) in a great two-up sprint, with Matthew O'Toole (13 min) taking third and Stella Stuthridge (40 m) delivering the ride of the day to hang on for fourth ahead of Paul Dynon (9 min). Wayne Hildred (scr.) filled sixth place and took fastest time ahead of Damian Vendy (scr.), Mathew Grealy (scr.), Ian Stringer (9 min) and Andrew Berry (13 min). Referee Hugh Weeks is laid up in hospital and missed the race, and everyone wishes him a speedy recovery.
