Another windy night at Emu Creek for this week's Dale Lowe Signs Summer Series which must have deterred a few, as a reduced field turned up which led to small bunches and a hard grind into the wind.
Once again the importance of keeping numbers together in these conditions was underscored. At the turnaround the slightly larger scratch and limit bunches looked the goods with odds favouring the former after they made up half the gap in half the race - although Race Director Ricky Lovell was heard to announce that limit would win by a mile. Despite the Kiss of Death, limit rode a beautifully paced race and headed to the final stages still well clear of the rest of the field. Scratch caught, chewed up and spat out all the other bunches in the second half of the race but only got their first glimpse of the leaders in the last couple of kilometers. The limit bunch held their nerve and capped off a great ride by taking the first four places with Gary Johnstone(17 min) recording a fine win, just pipping Karyn Mackenzie (17 min), Aileen O'Brien and Wendy Bennett. Darren Lapthorne (scr) stormed home a few seconds later to run fifth and record fastest time in front of Brent Gibson in sixth place.
