This evening was round 2 of the four race Cantina Bendigo twilight Series, graded scratch races at Emu Creek.
Numbers were about the same as last week although A Grade was down a bit, and apart from a brief flurry off the front by Martin Banfield and Chris Landvogt at the half way mark, the bunch stayed together at a steady pace. Marty proved too good in the sprint to beat Brent Gibson and Brad Geyer. A big and relatively strong B Grade field meant there was plenty of action with a few doomed attempts to get away brought back pretty comfortably. David Hogan opened the bidding with a spirited attack a kilometre and a half from home but was dragged back by Matt O'Toole. Phil Bone showed he had learnt his lesson from a couple of weeks ago and led the bunch through the final corner and fought off all contenders to cap off a strong ride, followed home by Ian Stringer and Paul Dynon. The C Grade field was bulked up with the inclusion of Peter Ladd, Mick lavery and Russell Gilbey. Peter took off after the Exchange Hill pursued by Russ who then jumped away to hold off the field for a long time before Mick Lavery dragged him back. Peter Body led into the home straight, only to be passed by Peter Ladd, but Peter no. 1 was able to kick again to take the win ahead of Greg Chapman and Peter Ladd. The D Grade field maintained a solid temp for the full journey with no breaks succeeding. Aileen O'Brien continued her great form to win from Carl Louchard and Gary Johnstone
